I found the same thing last night after downloading, but posted in the wrong thread. Maybe someone will notice it here.
sorry about that
the correct user/pass is:
user: vmplanet
pass: vmplanet.net

Hi. Could someome please tell me the root password for this image? Thanks in advance.
As per the ubuntu default there is no root password set.
If you want to set one you can do:
sudo passwd root
and then use the user password
assuming you have not yet changed it, the password is vmplanet.net

I had thought there was no password, but just entering <ENTER> with a blank password just returned an authentication error. But it works if I changed the password to something else. Thanks again.
that's a security feature =)
I personally prefer not having a root password
and just using sudo

I noticed that myself, but as soon as I installed the updates, I had firefox 3.
I think he got the description from somewhere upstream, though how the wrong version of it got installed i'm not sure...
I'm new to vmware. the image booted up fine, but it's 800x600. How do I make it full screen? can I toggle between full screen and a smaller size?
thanks,
-joe
for it to be able to resize the window when you toggle between full size and windowed mode, you would need to have vmware tools installed.
Unfortunately i have had a lot of issues getting them installed on Ubuntu Alphas

The tools installed for me fine into Gutsy Gibbon just fine. When my system was updated to Hardy Heron, they went bye bye. I tried to reinstall them and the script got along okay but never built the vmmemctl module, so all those functions were hosed. This was on 64 bit Ubuntu. I installed Hardy Heron 32 bit and got the same. This was also true on Kubuntu 64. I then installed Fedora 8 32 &64, Suse 64, Mandriva 64, and they never got beyond the compiling part because the header files couldn't be found. I'm using the same instructions for installation as is on the web page for installing into Fusion, which worked for Ubuntu 7.10. Something is wrong with either me or the installation procedure unless it's the disk image file in vmwaretools install.
AFAIK for the newer distributions, the kernel headers wont match what the tools are looking for...
