I downloaded the Kubuntu8.10a3 vm from vmplanet.net (following links from vmware.com) and when I run it I can log in, and it seems normal till I try and do something. When I click on icons all I get is the widget bar asking me if I want to add or remove widgets or lock the bar. I can't seem to do anything. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Thanks!

You seem right...
I had the same issue with kde4 on fedora 9 in vmware too

Tacob was there a fix? From your post it sounds like there wasn't. I'm running a lot of other vm's having switched from Parallels. I'm already pretty familiar with a number of distributions of Linux and coming from the Mac OS I'm comfortable terminal. I really think there's something wrong with the Kubuntu 8.10a3 vm.
