Hi,
I've just downloaded debian-4.0r1-netinst.7z and need to add some software, and have access to the root account. How can I do it?

Try "root" or "debian" or "password" ?

If you have access to root, that is all you need if I am interpreting your message correctly. If you go to system> manager > synaptic package manager you can add any software available in the repositories. You will have to enter your root password. If you don't have the passwd, then Smyl is looking it up for you.

i have yet to set this up but is sudo on?
if so just
sudo su
and type in your user password
then change roots password to whatever you want
