I pushed the download button on my VMFusion Library window and got to the VMware appliance list. I wanted to try to load FreeBSD using Fusion because it does everything for me. The link took me to a place where I had to download the file (zip) using bittorrent (whatever that is), but after a while I did get it downloaded unzipped and all the files put on a DVD. After trying a dozen or more times in various fashions to install it using Fusion, it was obviously not going to work, as the DVD wasn't bootable. I couldn't find any help anywhere so I winged it, got frustrated and double clicked the file with a vm looking icon. This started up Fusion somewhat, but it got me to a log in screen. Good grief! Bit level! Anyway I logged in as root with the thoughtpolice password and so I'm sitting at root prompt with no idea where to go. After looking at the "BSD in a minute" instructions on the web, it was obvious the whole process was going to be like the version 3.3 days of DOS. WARNING! If you aren't a Unix, bit banging, weenie and know completely about fdisk, devs, file systems, etc etc, just give up the idea of using FreeBSD.
Oh yeah! I downloaded the .iso disk images and tried that. At least Fusion was half way happy with those, but really I ended up in the DOS menu environment again, but at least I didn't have to type sysinstall to start it.:rolleyes:
Appliance? I think this washing machine would toast your bread instead.:)
Still sane, but not mad, just befuddled.
