View Full Version : GCC in Fedora 8 VMware Image

I have downloaded Fedora 8 VMware image. I am not able to find the gcc command in the same. kindly suggest.

I don't think that gcc is automatically installed in Fedora. Go to your software updater (probably Synaptic) it may be under install/uninstall software menu pick, but I think it is under system management pull down. Tell it you want to search. Enter gcc and wait a bit for it to search. The results are in the window on the right side of the dialog window. Look up and down the list and click on a likely candidate with the right title. You can see what it is in the description window. If it's the gcc package, check its box (it should be white and unchecked). With the box checked click apply in the top portion of the dialog box and it will tell you that it will install it along with any helper files. Say okay and wait for the, hopefully, happy results.
BTW, if you are trying to install the vmtools, I don't think they work for Fedora8, but it doesn't hurt to have gcc anyway.
