I am currently using your Fedora8 vmware image currently and it works fine. I would like to increase the virtual disk capacity by an additional 2GB but I am unable to do the same. Any help with this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Host OS: Windows XP
VMware Ver: VMware Workstation 6

Problem:

E:\Fedora-8>"C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmware-vdiskmanager.exe" -x 2Gb Fedora-8.vmdk
Using log file C:\DOCUME~1\xxxxx~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\vmware-xxxxx\vdiskmanager.log
Failed to expand the disk 'Fedora-8.vmdk': One of the parameters supplied is invalid (1).

I'm downloading this image right now but if it's not possible to increase the image size then I'll look elsewhere. Have you been able to allocate more than the default 512MB memory to it? Also are mp3 and xdiv codecs included or will we have to obtain this separately?

To give it more memory in VMware Player you would do:

Click on Player
Troubleshoot
> Change Memory Allocation

this pops up a dialog box for changing it.

I'm still looking into increasing disk space.

I know for sure that the mp3 codec is not included (due to patent issues) i haven't looked into the xvid codec though.

twoGbMaxExtentFlat aren't "growable". You should have used twoGbMaxExtentSparse. http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-1160/ .

At least that's how I read it. Note: I don't really have experience with this. I just installed VMware Player a few hours ago, but I know how to use Google. ;-)

It looks like there is some ability to convert between file types. Of course, I can't do that with only the Player, though.

twoGbMaxExtantSparse are also growing, which is a big performance hit in my experience...
